Dr Deodatus Mtasiwa is a retired medical doctor (since July 2017). He served as a Deputy Permanent Secretary from 2013 to 2016, responsible for Health Sectoral Issues, under the Prime Minister’s office, and later under the President's Office, Regional Administration and Local Government and the Chief Medical Officer, at the Ministry of Health, from 2007 to 2013. Dr Mtasiwa also worked as a District and Regional Medical Officer for Ilala District and Dar es Salaam Regional, respectively, between 1980 – 2007.  He graduated as a Doctor of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine,  University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 1979 and obtained a PhD in Internal Medicine at Hiroshima University, Japan, in 1990.  While in these leadership positions, he participated in implementing various innovative health inteventions and programs, as well as research and training activities involving public and private health systems. Dr Mtasiwa has also participated in several publications. He is a board member for various institutions doing research, innovation and implementation, in medical sciencies and related technologies, as well as providing services at facility and community level, that have good outcomes and impact on development.
