Neonatal Vitamin A supplementation at birth (Neovita)) trial. This was one of three concurrent studies in India, Ghana and Tanzania to inform global policy on the use of neonatal vitamin A supplementation for reducing infant mortality in low- and middle-income countries.
The primary focus of the study was to evaluate whether supplementation with 50,000 IU vitamin A within the first 2-3 days after birth in low- and middle-income countries reduces the risk of death in the first six months of life. AAPH contributed to the implementation of this Tanzania study that was led by Ifakara Health Institute, Tanzania and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and successfully enrolled approximately 32,000 babies who were followed for 2 years.
