5th ARISE Network Annual Scientific Symposium: Bridging the Gap

This 5th Annual Scientific Symposium was officiated by Hon. Ummy Mwalimu the Tanzanian Minister of Heath, and attended by Dr. Michael A. Battle Sr., the US Ambassador to Tanzania, Prof. Mark Elliott - Vice Provost of International Affairs at Harvard University and Board Chairperson to Africa Academy for Public Health, Dr. Mahesh Swaminathan - Country Director, Center of Disease control and Prevention (CDC) Tanzania, Melissa McNeil-Barrett – UNFPA Deputy Representative, Prof. Ayoade Oduola from University of Ibadan Research Foundation only to mention a few.

Translating research into practice for adolescent health, nutrition and HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa

The 2023 Annual Scientific Symposium was the 6th annual symposium for the program and the 4th annual symposium done in collaboration with the ARISE Network. This years’ symposium was held on Thursday the 19th of January 2023 at the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel. The symposia provide a platform for local and international public health experts in the health sector, development partners, and government agencies to discuss priority public health issues gleaning from locally generated scientific evidence. The goal is to celebrate scientific advances in the public health field, to point out the challenges identified using scientific approaches, and to together chart collaborative opportunities for addressing these challenges. This symposium highlighted ongoing adolescent health and nutrition interventions in Dodoma, Zanzibar, Tanga and Dar es Salaam, while sharing the adolescents’ perspective on the various collective efforts.

Advancing Implementation Science on Delivery of Essential Interventions and Services for Improving Women and Adolescents Health and Nutrition in Tanzania

Under the HIS, on the January 20, 2022 AAPH, HSPH, and MUHAS organised an annual scientific symposium titled, "Advancing Implementation Science on Delivery of Essential Interventions and Services for Improving Women and Adolescents Health and Nutrition in Tanzania" bringing together collaborators as well as adolescent health stakeholders from the Government and development partners to discuss some of their works in research and implementation of adolescent health centered interventions in Tanzania, while highlighting the challenges faced and opportunities that are yet to be capitalized upon in the arena.
