Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization registered in Tanzania with the mission to address public health priority challenges in sub-Saharan Africa through innovative scientific evidence, training and capacity building and knowledge translation. As we strive to strengthen our finance and administration core, AAPH is recruiting one (1) Finance Intern who is well versed in financial administration. Experience of working within the NGO space if an added advantage. The Internship opportunity will be based at AAPH Headquarters in Dar es Salaam – Tanzania.

Position: Finance Intern

Reports to Finance Officer

Location: Dar es Salaam

Internship Period: 3 to 6 months starting on 04th March, 2024.

Internship summary:

The Finance intern will work closely with other Finance Officers and the rest of AAPH staff and partners. She/He will be responsible for administration of financial transactions including entering data into QuickBooks, updating financial records, processing invoices, preparing various financial reports etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Photocopying and Scanning of Documents to be shared to Donor and other documents for Record Keeping.
  • To maintain accounting records and filling them in an appropriate manner.
  • To ensure that all payment requisitions are complete with all the necessary support documentation such as pro-forma invoices/bids, local purchase order, selection minutes, delivery notes, tax invoices, etc. before making payment. Also, ensuring that all payments are properly coded and cancelled by PAID stamp.
  • To assist in processing advance payments including but not limited to travel advances, sub-contractors/grantee advances, etc.
  • To ensure office costs are identified and correctly apportioned and charged to the respective projects/donors and other costs centers.
  • To assist in budgeting preparation process for the program and assist out in preparation of monthly and quarterly expenditure reports.
  • To ensure adherence to accounting and financial standards as per IPSAs, IFRS, ISA and Tanzania legislation, with comprehensive internal policies and procedures.
  •  Support audit process to ensure it is smoothly undertaken and all queries are addressed on time.
  • Assist in processing duly approved disbursements of both cash and banking adherence to policy and procedures.
  • To perform any other task as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance, Administration or Accounting.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in Finance or related function job; professional qualification would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience on accounts payable, receivable, cash, bank, and maintaining general ledger.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing financial and accounting information.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial and employees/vendors files.
  • Experience of working with NGOs is an added advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, bookkeeping skills, attention to details.
  • Skills in running QuickBooks and other accounting software and the general computer literacy.
  • Honest, trustworthy, respectful, demonstrates sound work ethics, and has good time management.
